Think Forward Principals’ Forum Term 4 2021
We are excited to host our final session for 2021, and to hear some of the insights from our co-convenors, Steven Capp and Sarah Asome on Bentleigh West’s Science of Learning journey, and where they are headed next. As many of you know, embarking on an SoL journey is not just about providing world-class instruction which benefits students with learning difficulties. Much more, it is about raising the bar, and helping teachers help students to reach their potential through targeted, explicit, systematic, and effective classroom instruction in English, Mathematics and the other learning areas.
We also want participants to come with questions, discussion points, and stories, as much of this session will be an opportunity to hear from our Principal members, and to plan our offering for this space in 2022.
We look forward to hearing from you on how we can help as a space of school leaders to get support and advice on where to next, and how to overcome challenges you may be facing.

About the Panel
Steven Capp
Steven Capp is the Principal of Bentleigh West Primary School in Melbourne, which has become recognised for its adoption of evidence- based teaching practices, particularly in the area of reading and mathematics. He has worked across the primary and secondary school sectors as an educational leader for the past 15 years. He has a Masters of School Leadership from Melbourne University and has worked with school leaders to explore bridging the gap from research to practice.
Sarah Asome
Sarah Asome is the Assistant Principal at Bentleigh West Primary School in Victoria and a dyslexia specialist. She has been instrumental in leading the change at BWPS but also supporting many colleagues state and nationwide in implementing evidence based literacy instruction in their schools. This has led to a significant increase in literacy and numeracy levels which now places BWPS as a high performing school.
In 2015, She was awarded ‘Outstanding Primary Teacher in the VEEA awards. She previously appeared in “Outside the Square ‘a DVD resource for teachers and in 2017 appeared on Insight – ‘A teacher Who Changed My Life’. Sarah has completed numerous courses including; Louisa Moat’s LETRS training, Dyslexia Action (UK), Associate training with Australian Dyslexia Association and is a Certified Dyslexia, Reading and Orton-Gillingham specialist and trainer for Australia (OGI international inc).
