TFE Principal Network

Think Forward Educators invites teachers and leaders to a dynamic webinar exploring the role of the principal as lead learner, framed through the VTLM 2.0 guide for Leading a Whole School Approach.

In this session we will hear from Jacqui Burrows (Churchill PS), Rhys Coulson (Templestowe Heights PS), Sarah Asome (Bentleigh West PS) & Steve Capp (Chelsea Heights PS) to gain practical insights into leading curriculum and instructional change, building capacity, and modelling the professional learning that drives whole-school success.

Rhys Coulson

Rhys Coulson has been Principal of Templestowe Heights Primary School (THPS) for the past decade, during which the school has grown significantly and earned a reputation as a leader in structured literacy, mathematics, and professional learning.

Under his leadership, THPS has become nationally recognised for its evidence-based teaching and hosts hundreds of visiting schools each year to share its practice. The school’s results show consistent and sustained improvement across literacy and numeracy, with students achieving well above state benchmarks.

Rhys contributes to state and international conferences and educational publications, and he continues to mentor aspiring leaders across Victoria.

Sarah Asome

Sarah Asome is the Principal at Bentleigh West Primary School. She has also worked in the UK and Singapore. Sarah has been instrumental leading the change at BWPS but also been able to support many colleagues State, Nationwide and in New Zealand to implement evidence-based literacy and numeracy instruction in their schools. This has led to a significant increase in accademic levels which now places BWPS as a high performing school. Currently Sarah is involved in the writing of the Victoria Lesson Plans for English.

In 2015, Sarah was awarded ‘Outstanding Primary Teacher’ in the Victorian Education Excellence Awards. She has appeared in “Outside the Square ‘a DVD resource for teachers and in 2017 was featured on SBS Insight – ‘A Teacher Who Changed My Life’. Sarah has completed numerous courses including Louisa Moat’s LETRS training, Dyslexia Action (UK) and is a Certified Dyslexia, Reading and Orton-Gillingham specialist and trainer for Australia (OGI international inc).

Recently, Sarah completed her Masters in Instructional Leadership at Melbourne University. n 2023, Bentleigh West Primary School won the Victorian Education Excellence Award (VEEA) for ‘Outstanding Inclusion Education’.

Steven Capp

Steven Capp is the former Principal of Bentleigh West Primary School and current Principal of Chelsea Heights Primary School in Melbourne. He has worked across the primary and secondary school sectors as an educational leader for the past 15 years.

He has a Masters of School Leadership from Melbourne University and has worked with schools and across Australia in bridging the gap from research to practice. He served on the expert advisory panel to the Federal Government for Year 1 Literacy and Numeracy Checks in 2017.

Jacquie Burrows

Whatever it is, the way you Jacquie Burrows has been the Principal of Churchill Primary School for the past 8 years. During this time she has lead change at the school, using evidenced based instructional practices to achieve high academic results and to increase student engagement.

In 2024 Jacquie won the Victorian Education Excellence Awards for Outstanding Primary Principal and the Lindsay Thompson Award for Excellence in Education. Jacquie is also the current Network Chair for the Latrobe Valley Principal Board.tell your story online can make all the difference.
