In late 2018, the Leadership Team of Brandon Park Primary School had an epiphany. It was a moment that led to the transformation of teacher practice and the transformation of student outcomes. They were exposed to, and subsequently wholeheartedly embraced, the Science of Reading. The journey has been invigorating and exciting, yet is still a work in progress.

2021 is Principal Sheryl Chard’s 20th year at the school, whilst Kate Buck has worked at Brandon Park for 12 years, firstly as a teacher and more recently as Assistant Principal. Janice Corbett also AP has been on board for two and a half years.

At Templestowe Heights, we know that writing is a huge predictor for success, as well as the most difficult thing we ask of students. In our School’s recent renaissance on writing, we have understood that writing is not a biologically primary skill - and children are not just going to “pick it up”.

Principal, Rhys Coulson will share the School’s current transformation of writing instructional practice, including assessment tools, and opportunities to unify teacher judgement and instruction of writing.
